Thanks to our participants, volunteers, and all our sponsors for an excellent first Coudersport Library 5K and Fun Run event! We had a nice break from the rain on Sunday, October 3, and even saw some beautiful glimpses of Autumn sunshine through the multicolored leaves as the runners took to the streets of Coudersport during the final day of the Falling Leaves Festival to help us raise money for the Library’s Building Fund. Over 70 adults and children participated in the two events and everyone seemed to have a great time. Our top finishers in the 5K were Ethan Kibbe (Male) with a time of 19:37 and Christie Keglovits (Female) with a time of 20:26. Top finishers in each age category included: Under 14 (Male) Chance Ramsey; Under 14 (Female) Hope Daisley. 14-19 (Female) Natalie Giannotti. 20-29 (Male) Shawn Shirk; (Female) Robyn Smelko. 30-39 (Male) Kevin Cracknell; (Female) Daphne McNamara. 40-49 (Male) Sean Conklin; (Female) Patty Giannotti. 50-59 (Male) Tom Gooch; (Female) Darlene Sitler. 60 and Over (Male) Roger Deller; (Female) Wanda Shirk.
Top Finishers in the Fun Run for Kids were Girls: Vanessa VanWhy, Hannah Taylor, and Payton Spaeth; and Boys: Tyler Paszkowski, Joshua Ross, and Noah Paszkowski.

The Coudersport Public Library will hold a 5K Race and Kids Fun Run on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at 2pm, to benefit the library’s building fund. 5K Run trophies will be awarded to overall 1st place finishers for men and women. 5K medals will be awarded to the first three place finishers in each sex and age divisions. The course is in the borough of Coudersport on paved streets. A map of the course is available here.
Racers can sign up in advance by downloading a registration form here or by visiting the library. The advance registration fee is $12.00 for adults and the first 75 pre-registered participants received short sleeve t-shirts. Registration on the day of the event is $15.00 and will be from 1 to 1:45 pm at Mitchell Park with the race starting promptly at 2pm.
There will be a half mile Fun Run for children immediately following the race at Mitchell Park. The entry fee for children is $5.00 and children can register on the day of the event.
All monies raised by this event will go toward a new public library for the Coudersport area. The Coudersport Public Library has completely outgrown a 60-year old building that was put into service as a library in the 1970s after serving as a roller skating rink and community building at Mitchell Park since being erected in 1950. Having served the library needs of the Coudersport areas for more than 35 years, the cost of major renovations and an addition to the building would nearly equal the cost of constructing a new building. For this reason, the Library Trustees have decided to embark on a fundraising campaign to build a new library. A new facility, designed as a 21st century modern library, will be engineered to be energy efficient and fully handicapped accessible.
Immediately following the 5K and Fun Run the Coudersport Public Library Trustees will hold a Building Fund Kick-Off and Ice Cream Social beginning at 4pm at Mitchell Park. All are invited to attend and share suggestions for the library, learn more about the building project and about opportunities for supporting the effort. Library trustees will be serving ice cream and cookies and Jakob’s Hollow have volunteered to serenade the crowd with music to create a fun and festive atmosphere to wrap up a wonderful Falling Leaves Festival weekend.
